Crafters Workshop for Mandela Day

Over 100 people joined Thula Baba Project in a craft workshop held in the Church Hall of Christ Church Constantia on Thursday the18 July 2024.

Many of the individuals and service organizations stayed much longer than their allocated 67 minutes – enjoying the refreshments arranged by the Christ Church Outreach Team and the comradery of the other crafters. Spending time with old friends, and making several new friends too.

This  resulted in 17 pairs of baby pants cutout to be sewn at home,

88 squares knitted for blankets, so far 4 blankets have returned sewn up.

Over 100 ECD toys – 50 of which passed the Montessori test – the remainder are being tweaked by the experts.

60m of fleece cut into 120 blankets, 30 were edged on the day – the rest were taken home to be finished.

140 tubs of Aqueous cream, 247 bottles of baby wash, 417 tubs of Bum Cream all labelled and filled. That’s 20kgs of cream and 25 litres of wash.

Our thanks to everyone who was involved, we are very grateful to those who contributed financially; and to those who donated the bags of baby things and a special thanks for the many platters of food that made the day.

Together we do more – the many new moms from the Cape Flats supported by Thula Baba Project are going to be thrilled to receive these items in their packs – equipping them on their parenting journey as first nurturers and educators.
